PAST EVENTS

The following are just a few examples of the many past activities:

1. Digital Photography for the over 60's with their grandchildren

As an extension to the popular silver sufers sessions we were pleased to offer a very successful course thanks to the funding from The National Lottery through Awards for All.   These sessions gave grandparents an opportunity to spend some quality time with their grandchildren, while also gaining experience of how to improve their digital photos.  Other sessions will be offered so if you are interested, register with Sue Hale now.

2. Open Studios @ Denefield - Art & Craft Show proved popular!

Almost 40 stallholders displayed a large variety of local handicrafts at this exciting event, giving the public a wonderful opportunity to buy a wide range of products.  These included cards, woodwork, edible arrangements, stained glass, animal statues, jewellery, pottery, bags, silk cushions, craft kits, books, Fimo, hand painted T-shirts, illustrations, abstract paintings, fine art and much more!  Families were given the opportunity to take part in a range of hands-on workshops in jewellery making, bag design, puppet making and woodland and seaside sculptures.  Much fun was had by all!  Refer to http://www.open-studios.org.uk/ for more information about this annual county-wide initiative.

3.  Partnership's Athletics Festivals are huge success!

Our first athletics festival took place in July 2007 with the help of Reading Athletic Club when a number of pupils from five schools across the cluster joined in this exciting inter-schools athletics festival. Simone Jacobs, a former Olympic medallist, joined in and a photographer from the Reading Evening Post  was there too!

Children took part in a variety of throwing, running and jumping activities, representing teams from their school.  Certificates were awarded to every child that took part.

As the Key Stage 1 teams were closely matched, a trophy will be awarded to each of the 3 schools. The Key Stage 2 trophy winner was Westwood Farm Junior School, followed by Long Lane, Downsway and Brookfields.

Our second festival took place in July 2008 when a similar event was run.  Unfortunately, our third athletics festival scheduled to be held in July 2009 had to be cancelled due to bad weather. However, the next one is due to take place on 28 April 2010 and it promises to be lots of fun!
